12 NAILS OF HALLOWEEN: Alternating Gradient Bat Nails

by - October 02, 2019

I swear, I feel like I've been waiting all year to start doing Halloween nail art. I think Halloween pretty much every nail artist's favorite time of year because there's so much you can do and play with. Like last year, I've got plans for 12 Halloween themed mani's that I'll be sharing over the month of October - and the plans have been in progress for at least a month now. Over the past year, since the last time I did this, I think I've really settled into my own style when it comes to nail art, so I think that these looks are going to end up being very much in that vein even though they do have specific theme. And to start, I've got these Alternating Gradient Bat Nails!

Keep reading to see how I got this mani!

For this mani, I really wanted the gradient to pop, so I started with one coat of Essence Black Is Back as my base. Once that was dry, I applied a gradient of Color Club's What's The Matte-er and You're My Soul Matte, alternating the direction of the gradient over my nails. I really think that the alternating gradient pops the look and gives it a lot more interest than it would have had if I'd had the gradient the same on all of the nails.

For the stamping, I reached for an old favorite plate, BM-XL28, for this bat image. Thus far, I haven't found a bat image in any of my other plates that I like quite as much as this one. Using my BornPrettyStore Clear Stamper and Maniology Straight Up Black Stamping Polish, I applied the bat image to all of my nails.

To finish, I first added a coat of Sinful Colors Matte Top Coat to keep the stamping from smearing. I don't know how this particular matte top coat is unlike all of the other matte top coats that are known to smudge stamping like crazy, but it is and I've been using it for most of my stamped mani's lately. Finally, I finished with a generous coat of Seche Vive Quick Dry Top Coat for volume and shine and voila!
