12 NAILS OF HALLOWEEN: Modified French Frankenstein Nails

by - October 23, 2020

Happy Friday, everyone! Can you believe we're already ¾ of the way through 12 Nails Of Halloween? I can't! The world is in a mess and my 2020 burnout is strong at this point, but time seems to be downright hurdling. Anyway, for today's mani, I feel like I somehow managed to keep it simple but also... like, a lot at the same time.

Let's just proceed, shall we?

So this inspiration for this mani is pretty obviously Frankenstein - I really, really wanted to do Frankenstein inspired nails this year - but it was really ultimately informed by the base polish. This is Cadillacquer's Wicked*, which is from their 2019 Halloween Collection but is actually still available from NailStuff.ca if you hurry! This polish is SUPER cool. It's a thermal that transitions from a sort of more neutral, grassy green shade to this super stunning neon green and it's got a bunch of different sizes and shapes of this really bold purple glitter in it. I love the pairing of purple and green forever, but especially for Halloween, so this is just a stunner to me and is about to become a Halloween must-reach-for.

For the design, I started with stamping the stitches design to all of my nails and for this one I decided to flip it over for the pinkie and first finger just to make them a little bit different. I used all What's Up Nails Products - B023 Creepin' It Real Stamping Plate, Neither Noir Stamping Polish and their Magnified Clear Stamper - for the stamping and I have to say... I'm kind of in a full What's Up Nails obsession at the moment. GIVE ME ALL THE PLATES AND POLISHES!

Anyway, once I was finished the stamping, I went in with Dimension Nails' Black Rhino and a super fine liner brush to apply this modified french tip. I really like the idea of pointy nails at Halloween, but since I don't want to change my actual nail shape, I like to do it with nail polish. Because the black can easily sort of disappear, it ends up really bringing that pointy shape forward.

For this mani, I wanted to go matte, so once I was finished with the nail art, I applied first a thin coat of water based top coat to seal in my design and then finished with a matte top coat - and voila!

HALLOWEEN NAILS - LOVE 'EM! Seriously, though, I love how this turned out and I think I'm going to end up dipping back into more modified French mani's in the future to play with my nail shape... because why not?
