SKIN CARE: VERSED Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm

by - January 13, 2021

I have to admit, I picked up the Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm months ago, but since 2020 completely murdered my desire to wear makeup I spent months skipping my double cleansing routine and sticking to a single cleanse. However, I'm back to using a cleansing balm to remove my makeup and SPF at the end of the day and I've finally been reaching for this enough to give a full review. I'm a HUGE fan of a cleansing balm and I tend to feel like I just must get my hands on any cleansing balm available at my local drugstore, so when Shoppers Drug Mart started carrying Versed products this was the first thing on my mind to pick up.

Keep reading for my review!

About:
From the moment you twist open the cap, this cleansing balm smells like a spa. That’s the eucalyptus and clove leaf oil—not artificial fragrance. This face wash in balm form melts away makeup and impurities without stripping moisture from your skin (thank you, vitamin E). As you massage it into your skin with wet fingertips, the oil-based formula softens to create a light, gentle milk that rinses clean with no oily residue (the kind that may have turned you off from cleansing balms in the past). It’s the perfect start to your PM wind-down ritual and especially useful as a first cleanse for you double-cleansers out there.

So, first things first, they are NOT lying about how gorgeous this smells. This is such a lovely scent, light and not overwhelming but definitely there, and it really does add to the whole experience of cleansing. For me, that really is a big part of the ritual of it, which is what makes it something I really look forward to and ultimately means that I will be consistently in my cleansing routine. That's a whole lot of words to say that this smells nice and I love it and loving it is good for my brain and ultimately my likelihood of using it. But it's true. It smells nice. I love it.

Texture is hugely important for me when it comes to cleansing balm and this one definitely has the texture that I look for. It's quite light and melts down really easily into my hands so that I can spread it really effectively over the skin without having to fight with it at all. I find that about a dime size amount is all I need to get really full, even coverage over my skin - important if you want the product to effectively provide that first cleanse and fully remove makeup and SPF.

I want to preface this bit of the review with this - I am not someone who likes the feeling of emulsifying an oil based cleanser on my skin. Historically, the feeling of that just makes my skin crawl, but it is something that I'm trying to remember to test out when I'm reviewing a cleanser because I know that's how you're instructed to do it - and I was actually really surprised with this one in that regard because it felt different. This one actually did feel milky when I added water and worked it in there and I didn't end up with any of that oil and water slickness that I can't really describe (but is literally giving me an instinct to gag as I think about it) and I found that I actually quite enjoyed that part of it as well.

Ultimately, I have to say that it's a good thing that I like the feeling of this when emulsified because I actually think that this product performs MUCH better that way. I've used it with my usual method - work it into the skin thoroughly and then remove with warm water and a face cloth - and I found that it didn't work nearly as well that way as when I emulsified it with water before removing with a face cloth. Honestly, I don't think I've ever really found that with a cleansing balm before, usually they perform very similarly with or without the emulsifying step, but this one definitely does need that step to get the most out of it.

Overall, I loved the experience of using this and I think that it's a really effective and lovely cleansing balm. I think it's a really lovely and effective formula that I personally really enjoy using as a first cleanse. It does contain fragrance, which is something to note but I personally don't find it to be a big deal when it comes to wash off products and this fragrance really does add to the experience of using this cleanser in a really positive way. Honestly, I definitely think this is worth giving a try. Personally this has inspired me to want to try out more products from the brand!

The VERSED Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm is available here in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart and retails for $23.99 for a 74ml tub - although on the day I'm posting this review, it is on sale!
