NAIL ART: Abstract Spring Floral Line Drawing Nails

by - May 01, 2023

When I'm rushed for time or just lacking in inspiration, there are definitely a few go to nail art designs that I tend to default to and today's mani is definitely one of them. Admittedly, I left this week's #CBBxManiMonday to the very last minute and when I sat down to do my nails, I basically had nothing in the tank, so I grabbed for some gel polish since there's no dry time to deal with and a new-to-me stamping plate that I've been wanting to use for a while and I just went for the old standby.

Because I was using gel for this mani, I started by applying a peel off base coat to all of my nails, which is a must for me. I let that fully dry down so that there's no tackiness left behind on the nails before I moved on to the next step. For the base, I went for my new absolute favorite sheer white polish, Born Pretty's Rubber Base Coat in RBG01*. This is just a perfect milky sheer base that adds just enough camouflage to the nail to hide any imperfections in your nail bed while still being quite sheer and even.

I applied one coat of RBG01* to all of my nails and cured for 60 seconds.

For the drybrushing detail, I wanted to keep it quite springy, so I decided to go for a pink and purple gel polish from ABGel to pair for this step. These polishes were a little bit more sheer than what I would usually use for this step, but in the end I sort of like the almost watercolor sort of look that they gave. I started by applying swipes of the purple at one side of the nail, cured, and then repeated with the pink polish on the opposite side of the nail.

For the stamping, I knew I wanted to use a combination of floral and these sort of feminine silhouette images from the Born Pretty Artist-L021 Stamping Plate so I chose images that I felt would fill each nail in a way that was satisfying and I applied them using black stamping polish. Next, I felt like the design needed a little bit more, so I added some dots using a black gel polish and a dotting tool.

Once I was happy with the design, I finished with a generous layer of Born Pretty Super Top Coat* and voila!

I think it's a good idea to have these sorts of signature designs in your arsenal, the kind you can pull out when you need to get something onto your nails but don't have a ton of time or inspiration. I also think gel is a really, really solid option when you're in a hurry because you have cure time rather than dry time, which definitely gets you out the door much faster and with less risk of messing up. Born Pretty has a fantastic collection of affordable gel polishes that are great if you're just starting out with gel polish.
