NAIL ART: Pastel Smoosh Faux Watermarble Nails

by - May 24, 2023

THIS POST IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUEEN COSMETICS.

After last week's faux watermarble design, I decided that I wanted to do another one this week using completely different techniques to get a totally different look. One thing I love about faux watermarble stamping is that you can do a million different things with the base to give yourself a million different designs. Also, it's been a while since I had done a smoosh, which is one of my favorite base techniques for stamping, so I grabbed for my favorite pastel neons and went for it.

Keep reading for more!

When it came to the smoosh, I decided to go all in for this one. I started by applying one coat of a nearly white nail polish just to give me a slightly brightened base for the smoosh to stick to. Next, using an old stamper that doesn't really work for actual stamping anymore, I applied dots of yellow, pink, peach, purple and blue pastel neon polishes sort of randomly to the stamper head. To create the marble look, I gently pounced my stamper over the nails, using very light pressure and keeping an eye on the blend to get just the right texture and movement I was looking for. As soon as I was happy with the design, I stopped pouncing and went in with a clean up brush dipped in acetone to remove any pooling at the cuticles.

For the design, I went with a black stamping polish because I felt like it would really pop that smoosh and also give me a sort of... hippie/psychadelic look to the overall design. I used this sort of partial image because I really liked the idea of leaving one corner of the nails a little more bare. I also alternated the direction of placement to lean into that trippy sort of feel.

Once I was happy with the design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then followed with a generous layer of glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I'm so, so, so in love with how this turned out. It's just so my style in a lot of different ways and I love the way the pairing of the bright, almost chaotic base works with that really dense black stamping. I highly, highly recommend both this stamping polish and the stamping plate, both from Pueen, if you want to recreate this look.
