NAIL ART: Bold Tropical Neon Drybrushed Nails

by - July 17, 2023

This week's #CBBxManiMonday is yet another one of those mani's for which this is my second attempt. It just happens sometimes that I try something and I initially really like it, but then as I think about it, it becomes clear that I actually want to do the same thing but different. And I realize that this probably sounds really neurotic of me... but what can you do? Anyway, without further ado, let's get into the nails, shall we?

Keep reading for more!

The thing I love about this dry brushing technique is that it's actually both really easy and also kind of a no brainer. I chose 6 neon shades from the Color Club Poptastic neons, which are probably some of the most used polishes in my collection, to create a full spectrum. For each nail, I chose three shades that I thought would work well together and I just sort of slapped them on.

Unlike a traditional dry brush technique where you apply really fine swipes over an opaque base, this technique uses the drybrushing to actually create the opaque base. I made a couple of swipes of each color onto the nail, building and very slightly blending the colors until I got full coverage over the nail, which took two coats. While you could use a nail art brush to do this, I just used the brushes straight from the bottle and swiped them off before returning them to the the bottle just to make sure that there wasn't any residue of the other shades.

For the stamping, I grabbed for for one of the Trolls Collection plates from MoYou London, which has a lot of really fun images that felt like a perfect fit for this really bold base design. For my outer nails, I chose a really graphic full cover image that I think really pops the base design. For the middle two fingers, I decided to go with palm tree images to leave no doubt as to the tropical inspiration of this design. For my ring finger, I used this single design of two palm trees in a diamond shape and for my middle finger I used two different palm tree images along with a portion of one of the full cover images.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then followed with a generous layer of glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I'm honestly so excited about how this turned out and so glad that I did this second mani. Of course, now I want to try a bunch of different types of designs using this technique, which is traditional at this point. But anyway - I'm so into how it turned out and I particularly want to use the three shades I used on my first finger for a full mani. So maybe keep an eye out!
