Prairie Beauty

So, I decided at the beginning of this year that 2020 was going to be the year that I care about my hair. For years now, I've had a sort of pattern that I've pretty consistently maintained - cut my hair shortish (just above my shoulders generally), get annoyed about not being able to put it up, grow it out long, wear it in a messy bun for several months and/or do some serious damage to it with bleach, and then cut it again to start the whole process over. This year, I decided I want to do things differently, actually learn different ways to style my hair and actually employ them, take better care of my hair overall and... yeah, just care about my hair. So I've been trying out a bunch of different products, playing with different styles, and actually really enjoying my hair overall and I wanted to share a handful of affordable products and one tool that I've been trying out recently.

Here's a true story... I am literally willing to try just about any hair care product if it smells like coconut. Well, that's not entirely true. I am willing to try just about any hair care product if it smells like nice smelling coconut. I don't like a really chemically coconut scent, I want something that has that rich, gorgeous, transports-you-to-the-islands type of scent. Obviously, I was super excited to try out the Marc Anthony Coconut Hair Care Products*. One of the things that always draws me to Marc Anthony products is that they're sulfate free, which is important to me personally because I do have coloured hair and I want it to last.

When it comes to my hair, I'm pretty much willing to try anything to give it some extra oomph and make it look more full than it actually is. See, I have a lot of hair, but it's very fine and very straight so it tends to just fall flat. I've pretty much tried everything to get it to look a little more full and luxurious and I'm always looking to try new things. SO of course when I got the chance to try the Sure Thik Hair Thickening Fibres*, I was completely in. I was in for a bit of a surprise... but not a bad one at all.

I noticed my first gray hair on my 23rd birthday and it was TRAUMATIC. The thing about gray hair that drives me crazy is the difference in texture. Have you ever noticed how those infuriating white hairs seem to stick up straight from your head? YUCK. In the 10 years since I found that first gray hair, more have followed in its stead and as my roots start to grow out between visits to my hairdresser, I have to live with the evidence of my aging. Could I sound more dramatic right now? Me thinks not. Anyway, I've always relied on touch ups to my roots to try and keep those under control, but in the past couple of years I've been skipping the hair colour more and more and just living with the annoying grays. However, recently I've been trying out no gray Quick Fix* to try and combat those annoying little buggers, and I'm ready to let you guys know what I think of this product!
