Oh man, guys, putting together this year's Makeup Favorites this year was probably the easiest it's ever been, but I procrastinated HARD on sitting down and actually taking the photos of the products. Admittedly, when it comes to makeup I've been pretty committed this year and the products that I love I really, really love and reach for constantly. I think I've managed to transition away from wanting to try all of the things and constantly reaching for the new new and instead when I find favorites I tend to stick with them. I also didn't choose favorites from categories where I just don't have a favorite product, because I didn't want to be disingenuous and just choose a product to have something to mention. 

SO, without further ado, let's get into my favorite makeup products of 2019!

Hey guys! It's that time again - yearly favorites! You may have noticed that I didn't actually do Monthly Favorites posts in 2018, which was really because I was finding it difficult to keep choosing a selection of favorites every month that would be different from the last. I'd love it if you'd let me know if you'd like me to go back to Monthly Favorites, because I'd be happy to do it, I think I just might alter the way that I do it a little bit. Anyway, since I didn't have those monthly posts to reference, I really had to look back through the blog, through my social media and just through my memory to really figure out what the products were that shone brightest in the past year, and every single product on this list is absolutely one that I would recommend.

After years of neglecting and ignoring my nails, 2017 was the year that I finally started getting back into doing my nails and dipping my toes into the nail art scene. Now, I still consider myself a novice, but I've really been trying things out and having a really good time doing it, and it 2018 I do hope to include more and more nail art and polish related content here on the blog. But for now... Let's talk about the stuff I've been loving over the past year to both take care of my hands and to play with nail artistry.

If you read this blog with any kind of regularity, you'll know that I'm a bit of a skin care nerd and I've been super interested in the past few years in learning as much as I can about how skin care really works. I also believe pretty strongly that all of the science in the world won't actually tell you how a product will react with any individual's skin, so it's important to really try products and give them a solid test while also considering scientific evidence and the ingredients that work best for you. Anyway, because I try and really enjoy so much skin care combined with the fact that I've found that what works best with my skin is to layer and change up the products in my routine based on how my skin is behaving, really figuring out what my favorites were was a difficult task for me. That said, I definitely stand behind all of these products as ones that work for me, that I consistently reach for, and that I have every intention of continuing to use into 2018.

When I sat down at my vanity with my notebook to suss out my favorites of the year, eyeshadows were probably the most difficult for me because there were SO MANY contenders. I feel like eyeshadow formulas have come really far in the past 5 years or so and what I love now is leaps and bounds ahead of what I was loving back when I started this blog. When choosing these five, I definitely considered formulas that were above and beyond, but also what I'm personally most likely to reach for in my collection when I'm not testing something out for review and these are definitely the products that I tend to come back to - and one that is new but just... an absolute standout from this past year.

You might be surprised (or maybe not) to learn that the types of products that I tend to have the most of in my collection are actually cheek products. I'm actually a bit of a fiend when it comes to blush, especially in the formulas that I love, and I absolutely love trying out and finding new amazing bronzers and highlighters. That said, this year there have been some SERIOUS standouts in this category and when I sat down to choose my favorites they were all really clear for me. Considering the size of my collection, I feel like the fact that choosing a Top 5 was this easy is a testament to how much I love these products!

Ahhhhh! I feel like it's customary to open a yearly favorites post with some exposition on how I can't believe that the year has passed already - but as true as that is on its face, I feel like 2017 was a year that was really, really full and passed quickly, but... not as much as some others. Anyway! It was a unique year for makeup for me in that I found myself less excited about new releases than I've been in the past and I did a lot of rediscovery of oldies but goodies and also worshipped my solid favorites quite a bit. I decided to do this year in a Top 5 format, choosing only what I really solidly loved this year and really being hard on my collection to choose my favorites.

Because it seemed like the obvious place to start, I decided to open with my favorite complexion products, so keep reading to see what made the cut!

So, I'm going to be doing a full series of posts about my favorites this year, including all of the major categories, much like I did last year, but I decided to do a post for New Year's Eve that is my knee jerk favorites for the categories of FACE, EYES, LIPS, CHEEKS, SKIN CARE, and HAIR CARE. I decided that I would just go with pretty much my first instinct as to what was my absolute favorite product in those categories and show them to you. Now, I have to suck a little bit here, because one of the products is actually discontinued, but I had to be 100% honest and this was literally the one thing that really stood head and shoulders above the rest, but we'll get to that.

Without further adieu, here are 6 products that were my knee jerk favorites of 2015!

When it comes to eyes, I like to change it up frequently. I have a huge collection of eyeshadow, eyeliner, and even mascara and I like to try to rotate them frequently so that I can (maybe) justify the massiveness of the collection. Of course, there are always going to be products that rise above the rest and that I find myself reaching for more and more often. Honestly, I thought that making this Top 5 list was going to be difficult, but as soon as I sat down with all of my makeup in front of me it was insanely easy. In fact, I might even go so far as to say that this was the easiest and most obvious Top 5 list that I made for this end of year wrap up and I think that's saying something.
