UNBOXING: Ipsy March 2015

by - March 13, 2015

You guys... I think we have a winner on our hands here. If you've checked out any of my recent Ipsy posts (or noticed that I entirely skipped the January unboxing), you'll know that I've been a little bit down with Ipsy for the past few months. FINALLY, friends, we have a bag that I'm actually really happy with top to bottom. This month's theme is "Floral Fantasy", and I have to admit that I don't see it... but I don't hate that because I feel like I would absolutely HATE a bag with a literal interpretation of a floral theme. I think the bag is actually kind of pretty this month and I think it'll end up getting tossed in my beach bag this summer, so there's nothing wrong with that. Of course, what really matters is the products...

Keep reading to take a look at what was inside my bag this month!

1. pūr-lisse beauty - pūr-delicate gentle soymilk cleanser & makeup remover - Value $6.43

This is actually really timely for me, because I've been looking into trying new cleansers for my face that aren't of the foaming variety. After the biggest, most horrible breakout of my life last week, I've been on a mission to get my face to a good, healthy place and have been obsessively reading Caroline Hiron's blogs for her tips on that because... Have you seen that woman's skin? I want my skin to look as good as hers does now, nevermind when I'm in my 40s. Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying this out and seeing how my skin reacting to a soy milk cleanser. BRING IT, PUR-LISSE!

2. Dr. Brandt Skincare - Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion - Value  $4.90

Like I said in my spoilers post, I'm eager to try this because I really liked the last Pores No More product that I got from Ipsy. I'm not sure how I'm going to like this, because mattifying lotions and primers that I've tried in the past have always dried me out and made my makeup look cakey, but we'll see how it goes. This might end up being a product that I use on no-makeup days, because those are when I really need a mattifying step in my routine. Anyway, I like.

3.
Vintage by Jessica Liebeskind - Illuminating Face Highlighter - Estimated Value $8.50*

The Good: This product is really smooth and silky to the touch, blends out beautifully, and has incredible pigmentation. The Bad: I think that even if I, with my cool undertones and pasty skin, were to wear this as a highlighter I would look like I'm playing fairy princess. It's just too pink for me, even though it's really beautiful. That said, I think this would be beautiful as a blush topper on the apples of the cheeks where a little glow always seems to bring a youthful, healthy look to the skin. The Vintage Cosmetics website actually suggests that in the description of this product. I also think it would work really well as an eyeshadow. I am absolutely not mad at this at all and can't wait to put it on my face.

*I estimated the value of this based on assuming that it was about 1/3 of the full size.

4. NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in Hunk - Value $5

When the NYX Butter Lipsticks first launched, this was the colour that I was most drawn to in photos, but once I saw swatches I was a little less inclined to pick it up. However, now that I have it, I absolutely love it. This is a beautiful berry shade on the lips and (as you know if you've read this blog a while) I absolutely love the formula of these lipsticks. I was a little bit worried about the shade that I was going to get, but now that I have it in my hands I couldn't be happier.

5. Boo Boo Cover Up - Boo Boo Cover Up Medium Shade - Value $10

When I saw the shade that was going to be included in this month's box, I was convinced that there was no way I was going to be able to use it - like with the Bye Bye Undereye from last year. Amazingly enough, this actually blended pretty nicely into my skin when I tested it out on a blemish. This is definitely not an undereye type of concealer, so it doesn't need to be brightening, and I have a feeling that this shade will actually work fairly well for me on blemishes. Surprised and pleased, that's what I am!

Overall, I am really happy with this bag. There isn't a product in here that I don't think I'll use, and it's been a while since I've gotten another Ipsy bag that I could say that about. I love the shade selection as well as the skin care options and can't wait to give everything a real go. Good on you, Ipsy! I'm sticking with it for another month!
