REVIEW: Saje Natural Wellness Headache Relief Kit
I need to say straight off that I tend to be a pretty firm skeptic when it comes to natural remedies. I like to say that I'm the kind of girl that likes to lead an evidence based life and that means relying on things that have been studied and tested. That said, like anyone I can be swayed into trying something by hearing other people's positive experiences and I'd like to think that there are a lot of things that science hasn't touched on yet. (That isn't to say that those things will work or that I would take that route if I were faced with a major health issue, because I believe the best first course of action is the one backed by evidence rather than anecdote.) I also believe pretty strongly in the way that our sense of smell can influence how we're feeling. Anyway, I picked up this kit after hearing a really fantastic review over on Beauty Brains Plus, especially the part where she said that she too is a skeptic about this kind of thing. I decided to pick up the Headache Relief Kit, because I tend to get headaches pretty often and I usually just ride them out, because I don't like to take pain killers unless I really need them. I figured this was a good place to start for my situation.
Keep reading to take a look at what's included in this kit and my thoughts on each!
DISCLAIMER: Essential oils can cause a reaction when applied topically or ingested. I recommend you do some research on the use of essential oils from a trustworthy source before trying any essential oils products aside from home fragrance.
About the kit:
This kit contains everything you need to address that nagging headache: our best selling Peppermint Halo in both a roll-on and wand application. Use simultaneously - apply the roll-on around the hairline and the wand on the scalp to ensure immediate results. Also includes our popular and calming Stress Release Mist, which helps alleviate symptoms of mild anxiety, and promotes relaxation.
Peppermint Halo Headache Remedy
A proven and effective remedy known as the "four minute miracle" for
headache and migraine sufferers. The warming and cooling action works
to reduce pain and pounding, while the sedative qualities relieve
tension and balance the nerves.
This is my favorite of the three products for sure, and the one that I will definitely be replacing in full size when this one runs out. This has a VERY strong menthol smell to it, but I do find that it isn't overwhelming once you have it on the skin. Honestly, I don't think this gets to the root of the headache problem, but it definitely eases the tension and pain in my head to help me feel more comfortable and get on with my day without that distraction. I tend to get tension headaches in my forehead and temples, so I do one swipe of this just along my hairline and then a couple of rolls in my temples and it really helps to ease the pain there. It's not a miracle, but it works very, very well.
Stress Release Tension Reducing Mist
Formulated with balancing lavender, soothing roman chamomile, uplifting
orange and grounding vetiver to help alleviate symptoms of mild anxiety,
such as restlessness and nervousness. All-natural Stress Release Mist
can be used anytime throughout the day or night to help you return to a
state of calmness and relaxation.
For me, I just don't think I've figured out how to make this work. The ideas is that you're supposed to mist it above your head and breathe it in, but the times I've done that I've really found it to make no difference in my tension or overall mood. I think I'm going to bring this to my office and leave it on my desk to possibly use as a room spray when I'm feeling overwhelmed with work. I'm also thinking I might try it in my bedroom before bed, since I do find that these types of scents help to relax and prepare me for sleep. If you're thinking about purchasing this, I would try it out in store before laying out money for it.
Peppermint Halo Headache Remedy Wand
It's a powerful therapuetic essential oil combination of nurturing
Peppermint, camphorous Eucalyptus and soothing Lavender to help relieve
headache pain. A must-have remedy for the home, office, and even the
pocket or purse.
I wasn't exactly sure at first what the point of this was, but once it was explained to me by a very helpful employee in the store I find it kind of genius. This can be used when you're feeling headache pain anywhere that you have hair. All you have to do is press the pen into your scalp and it leaves a little dot of oil there and works very much the same way as the Peppermint Halo rollerball. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't recommend the way that I've been using it, but it works and I'm a risk taker (no, I'm not, but it suits this moment...) I've been dotting this through my eyebrows when I have a tension headache in my eyes and it works really, really well. I don't think I'd buy this again, just because the roller makes more sense for me, but it's still pretty cool.
Overall, I'm pretty happy that I picked up this set, if only because it gave me a chance to try out a few different products. I obviously really like the Peppermint Halo and would recommend it for people who get occasional headaches or frequent minor headaches. I can't speak to how this would work for more intense headache pain. I wouldn't repurchase the Stress Release mist at this point, but I'm going to keep trying it and figure out if it works in another way for me.
If you're interested in these products, I recommend that you head down to a Saje Wellness store and speak to one of the people who work there, because they really are very knowledgeable and helpful, and also do some research on essential oils if you're unfamiliar.
Thanks for reading! Have you tried any products from Saje Wellness that you feel I have to have?
