REVIEW: OCC Lip Tar Ready To Wear in Strumpet

by - March 29, 2016

The Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars have always been gorgeous, right? I just couldn't entirely get down with the squeeze tube format because, while it was probably the perfect format for a professional makeup artist, it was a bit too inconvenient for me to wear very often. However, I was always a little bit in love with the shade Strumpet and I would pull it out whenever I really wanted a lip that would pop and was willing to give a little more effort than usual. SO clearly, when OCC released the Ready To Wear versions of their Lip Tars, the first one on my list was Strumpet. I finally got my hands on it, and I want to tell you about it!

ABOUT:
NEW! The original liquid lipstick, formulated for unrivaled pigment intensity and wear-time, is now ready-to-wear! Only the smallest amount of product off of the newly included doe-foot applicator is needed for full coverage and a natural matte finish. Prefer a glossy texture? Layer for added luster after lining with a coordinating OCC Pencil shade!

Made with Hemp Oil and Vitamin E for a finish that feels as good as it looks. Gluten-Free. Silicone-Free. Synthetic preservative-free courtesy of Peppermint Oil, a natural antibacterial and antimicrobial alternative.

I have to say, I've gotten a little more used to a softer, more flexible sponge tip so I was a little bit surprised at just how firm this doe foot is. However, I find that for this type of shade I actually really like the firmness because it forces me to be very precise about where I'm applying the product. These are SO INSANELY pigmented that you need to be precise when you apply or it can get messy. I like this tube, it's very simple with the clear tube and the white lid, but I think the branding really gives it a modern, slightly more high end look.

One thing to note is that these do have a lot less product than the original squeeze tube versions of the Lip Tars, but I don't think that should be a problem for the casual makeup wearer since there was no way anyone other than a makeup artist was going to get through a whole tube of the original Lip Tars. Those tubes were super quantities. This product contains 4ml of product.

As you can see from the swatch, this shade is very vibrant and punchy. I would personally describe it as a raspberry shade, because it's definitely a bright berry shade but it has a good bit of purple in it that I think pushes it to raspberry. Either way, this shade is STUNNING, one of very few shades outside of nudes, mauves, and deep reds that I actually reach for consistently, and I think it would be flattering on pretty much every skin tone, but particularly very fair or deep skin tones.

I have to say, I'm insanely glad that I decided to pick this up and put it in my collection, because I feel like it's a seriously great product and I will be reaching for it often. If you haven't tried the OCC Lip Tars yet, particularly if you haven't tried it because you didn't like the tube and brush application, I highly suggest picking up one of these Ready-To-Wear Liquid Lipsticks because they're just great products and the shade range is absolutely insane!
