REVIEW: Urban Decay VICE Lipstick in "Backtalk"

by - September 30, 2016

So, I already wrote about the Urban Decay VICE Lipstick in the shade Rapture here on the blog, but I figured that since I picked up this shade as well and it's in a different finish I would talk about it as well. This shade is POPULAR. I went to two different stores and it was sold out, so I had to order it online - and I got an email while it was sitting in my cart saying that it was almost out of stock on Sephora as well. I mean, I'm not surprised, because not only is the Comfort Matte finish sure to be a popular one, but this pale mauve shade is really on trend right now as well.

In my review of Rapture, I went on and on about the packaging of this product, so it hardly seems like I should do it again, so I will tell a little story instead. When this arrived, I was showing my boyfriend and I was like, "Oooh, look how pretty!" And because he doesn't get it, he was just kind of shaking his head at me, but then I started turning the bullet up and he was like, "Ohhhh there's a flaw in it!" And I smirked and shook my head and twisted it up the rest of the way and said, "Nope! That's a debossed Urban Decay logo that just makes this extra pretty." And again, he shook his head because he doesn't get it. But these little details make my little makeup junkie heart sing. ANYWAY.

As I said in my other post, the Urban Decay VICE Lipsticks are available in 100 different shades, in 6 different finishes, so there's literally something for everyone in the line. For me, Backtalk ticked all the boxes of my personal preferences. It's a mauve that isn't too deep and doesn't lean too far pink in a matte finish that doesn't drag or feel heavy on my lips. But seriously, whatever your preferences are, I'd be willing to bet you can find something that you'd love in this line.

First, let's just take a minute and talk about the Comfort Matte finish. While this is technically a matte finish, it isn't as matte as something like the Milani Moisture Mattes or, I suspect, the VICE Mega Matte finish which I haven't tried. This still does maintain a little bit of shine on the lips, but it's very minimal, not nearly as much sheen as a the Cream finish held. The glide on this lipstick is really, really nice. There's a slight silicone feeling to it, but it actually feels more balmy to me. Because of that balmy feeling, I find this lipstick to be really, really comfortable and hydrating on the lips and don't get any of the dryness that I often associate with a matte lipstick.

Like I said above, Backtalk is a mauve shade that balances that kind of orchid shade with a slightly nude undertone that I think makes it really wearable, especially on fair skin. I think this is one of those shades that might pull a little differently on different skin tones.

Anyway, the pigmentation on this lipstick is absolutely incredible and I don't find that I get any wear patchiness or anything when I apply it. It also has pretty great wear time, in my opinion. I don't think I could get a full day out of this lipstick, but I don't think that I could get a full day out of any lipstick personally. I find that this stays pretty full colour on my lips for a few hours and then starts to fade towards the inside. It does apply really well over itself though, so reapplication is no big deal. I would definitely say that the wear time of the Comfort Matte formula is at least double that of the Cream formula for me.

Lovelovelovelove! That's just me... singsonging this lipstick. I really do love this lipstick though, and I think I'll be reaching for it often, though it'll actually more likely be a winter lipstick for me than a fall one since the tone is so cool that I think it'll go with my winter colours better than the warm tones that I'm currently reaching for consistently. Still, this shade is gorgeous and I love the formula and I'm over the moon glad that I bought it.
