NAIL ART: Soft Graphic Abstract Nails ft. Cadillacquer Mystic Fog

by - October 02, 2020

When I sat down to put together nail art featuring the polishes from the new NailStuff.ca Exclusive Cadillacquer Duo*, I really wanted to create designs that would reference the names and inspiration behind each of the polishes - but how does one interpret Mystic Fog in nail art form? I actually thought about that for a while before it hit me and I have to say... I'm kind of in love with what I ended up with for this mani. This base polish is just stunning and really evokes the intention, I think, and I wanted to play to that rather than against it but not be too on the nose, you know? So this look ended up being sort of an abstract interpretation, but I think it gets there.

To start, I applied two coats of Cadillacquer's Mystic Fog* to my nails. Because this polish does dry down with some visible texture from the larger glitters in the formula, I followed with a generous coat of quick dry top coat to give a really smooth base for my stamping.

Choosing the images for my stamping was very much rooted in that name, Mystic Fog, so I started by applying this swirling image from the WhatsUpNails B059 Thirsty Texture Stamping Plate to all of my nails using a soft grey stamping polish, flipping it upside down for my ring finger for just a little bit of subtle difference. Initially my plan was to stick with just that, but I felt like it needed something else. I had just gotten the Nicole Diary 164 Stamping Plate and I felt like the sort of swirling line designs from the plate had the feeling of runes, which really fit the mystic idea to me, so I decided to apply images to each of my nails using white stamping polish.

Satisfied with that, I applied a coat of water based top coat to seal in my stamping and followed with another coat of glossy top coat to add shine. And voila!

I don't generally go so literal with my inspiration for a mani based on the name of a polish, but I'm really excited about how this one turned out - and ultimately I think "literal" might be a little bit of a stretch since this is an abstract design. I think the idea of "Mystic Fog" was a really interesting one and I think there are so many things you could do with it. I also really like abstract nail art at the moment, which I think is a pretty wide category. Personally, I really want to play in the abstract theme more, because I think there's just so much you can do with it.

Cadillacquer Mystic Fog*, as I said, is part of a new NailStuff.ca Exclusive Duo that launches tomorrow - October 3, 2020 @ Noon EST - and it's very, very much one worth checking out. In case you were wondering, it is described as "a light grey polish with medium and small hex glitters and blue/green/gold colour shifting hex glitters." You can check out my full swatches and review of the Duo here.
