NAIL ART: Muted Leafy Abstract Fall Skittle Mani

by - November 06, 2023

After the marathon that was Halloween nail art, I took a bit of a break from doing my nails and now I'm back with a pretty minimal (for me) nail design to transition away from the spooky season theme to hang out in fall vibes until it's time to move on to Christmas. November really is always a strange time for nails for me. Our #CBBxManiMonday theme this month is... really no theme at all. We decided to go with a Free For All theme and that is very much going to work for me since I can't really wrap my brain around another theme right now.

Without further rambling, let's get to the nails!

I received a few new to me shades from OPI in a nail polish order last week, so I decided to go into my OPI drawer and use 5 different shades from the brand to create this skittle. I wanted to go for classic fall shades, but stay away from the more vampy options and stick to mostly more muted tones - though I did throw in a rich berry on my thumb (not pictured) because I just couldn't resist.

I went with a mustard, a warm beige, a sage green, a rich burnt orange along with the aforementioned berry shade. I applied two coats of each shade to my nails and let those dry down before moving on to nail art.

For the actual nail art, I started by applying a swipe of a metallic gold shade to each of my nails. I started towards the tip of the nail and swiped inward, being sure to keep a light pressure and allow the brush strokes to feather out towards the center of the nail. Next, I applied the main image to each nail. I actually used portions of a full cover image from the Uberchic Beauty Boho Chic stamping plate for this mani, isolating one image per nail. I applied each image toward the base of the nail on the side that didn't receive the dry brush. Finally, I added a scatter of stars to each nail just to add a bit more visual interest.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed it in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a generous layer of matte top coat for a smooth, flat finish. And voila!

Honestly, when I first finished this mani, I was a wee bit underwhelmed, but as I look at the photos I'm really happy with how it came together. It feels simple and minimalist (again, for me...) and really just absolutely screams fall without being too on the nose with pumpkins and whatnot. And this could just be me but I really think this velvety finish from the matte top coat just absolutely sings with these polishes.
