2015 BEAUTY FAVORITES: Face Products

by - January 04, 2016

Admittedly, I'm going a little bit hard with the Favorites post this year - there will be a total of 10 when all is said and done, but I really wanted to take some time and really talk to you guys about the products that I've absolutely loved over the last year. For me, the criteria of the favorites are that they are the things that I love enough to withstand the new and shiny. Since there are always new products coming out and I'm always trying out new things to review here on the blog, the products that really stand up and endure and have me reaching for them consistently.

The first of these neverending favorites posts had to be my face products - not to be confused with cheek products, which will come later. These are the top 5 base products in my collection that I've been absolutely loving, so keep reading to take a closer look!

1. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
Earlier this year, I compared this to the NYX Angel Veil Primer, because I'd heard it was a dupe. And yes, they are quite similar, but there really is nothing I've tried that is as good as this primer for me. In the summer I did a friend's makeup for her wedding, and I used this to make sure that her base would last through hot sun, high humidity, and all of the crying that comes with getting married. Because this is really spendy, I tend to reserve it for special occasions when I need my makeup to be essentially bulletproof. If you're interested in trying this out, you don't have to shell out the $60 for full size, because Sephora has this travel size for around $20. It really is worth a try, friends - but be warned, you'll probably love it! ;)

2. Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation
This was the FACE product that I mentioned in my Knee Jerk Favorites, and it is probably one of my favorite face products of all time. Like I said in that previous post, I love to use this on its own and also to mix it with other foundations to just make them... better. There's really no describing it. It also doesn't hurt that this smells deliciously fruity, does it? If you can get your hands on this, I highly recommend it. The coverage is light to medium and it doesn't really build up to full coverage, but it gives a really even, healthy, natural appearance to the skin.

3. Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Fresh Complexion Oil Free Foundation
When this first came out, I actually had no intention of trying it until I saw a video on Youtube from someone that I trust who was absolutely raving about it. Since it's an incredibly affordable foundation, I decided to give it a go and I promptly fell in love. I'm on my third tube and when I start to get low, I always grab a backup when I see it on sale. This has more coverage than the Bourgois, and a slightly less natural finish, but it works really beautifully with my particular skin type and feels very comfortable. I will say, however, that most days recently I wear a combination of this with the Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum, and it is absolutely heavenly.

4. Maybelline FIT Me Concealer
This basically has cult status at this point, and it's for good reason. This is an incredibly affordable concealer that does a phenomenal job on the undereyes. I do find that I have to set it with powder or it'll crease, but as long as I do that it gives me great coverage and staying power and brings a nice brightness to my undereyes. I couldn't even tell you how many of these I've gone through - but I can tell you that I picked up yet another tube in the past week, because I absolutely always want to have this one on hand. And it's often sold out, which tells you something as well!

5. Sephora Collection Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer
This is a relatively new find for me, but it was pretty much an instant classic. I love this when I want really natural looking skin, because it just melts into the skin and provides coverage without ever really looking like makeup. I've never had this cake up or look weird on me. I find it hard to compare this to the FIT Me, because they actually are surprisingly different, so I tend to use them when I'm looking for different looks. If you're interested in more on this, read the review I linked above, because I feel like it says it all. Now, if only they'd tweak the applicator just a LITTLE.

So, how was that for quick and painless? If you're looking to try out some new face products this year, all of these would get my highest recommendation, but the highest of the high would be the Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation and the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. If you haven't tried those yet and you can get your hands on them both, I really think you should!

Thanks for reading and come back tomorrow for another set of 2015 beauty favorites!
