REVIEW: CoverGirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palette in Goldens

by - February 23, 2017

If you're like me, you might have a list of products on your Wish List that have been out for a while but you've never gotten around to picking up. The Covergirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palettes - available in Nudes, Goldens, Roses and, most recently Jewels - have been out for a minute and I've looked at them in stores a lot of times but hadn't ever pulled the trigger on picking them up. In retrospect, I feel like this has is my M.O. when it comes to eyeshadow palettes, because I want them to be tried and true by others before I pick them up. Anyway, I finally decided to go for it and pick up the Goldens Palette, because I've a huge fan of an olive green eye look and I actually felt like I didn't have much in my collection in that tone.

About:
Get the same look as a leading $50 eye shadow palette! trunaked eyeshadow palettes feature universally flattering, neutral shades that are made to be blended together, so you can mix and match colors and always look flawless. Each eye shadow palette comes with 8 highly pigmented shades, and endless possibilities.

Let's go straight to the pink elephant in the room when it comes to these palettes and talk about the fact that the first three in the collection definitely seemed to be putting themselves out there as dupes for the first three naked palettes. The Goldens definitely seems to be the dupe for the original Naked palette and when you see them next to each other, you can definitely see the similarities. All of that being said, I want to review this for what it is rather than as a dupe - in part because I actually never picked up the original Naked palette because Urban Decay shadows have just never really been my favorites.

Créme, Chiffon, Cookie, Sunkissed, Camel, Ginger, Ecru, Sierra

The shade selection is what really got me about this palette and I think it was incredibly well curated. Of the 8 shades, 3 are matte and the rest are shimmers. The three matte shades are Créme, Cookie and Sierra. I feel like those three types of shades are really must have matte shades in this type of palette because they work to highlight the brow bone, act as a transition in the crease, and deepen out the outer V to give dimension to a look respectively.

Creme - Light buttery cream matte
Chiffon - Slightly sheer pale gold shimmer
Cookie - Light neutral brown matte
Sunkissed -Light true gold shimmer
Camel -Mid-toned golden olive shimmer
Ginger - Mid-toned golden bronze shimmer
Ecru - Deep seaweed (green/brown) satin
Sierra - Deep chocolate satin matte

When it comes to the formula of these, I'm actually really impressed. These have a really soft texture with a silky feel. I do feel like they perform best with a primer to really give them something to stick to, but I've used them without and I think they performed pretty well. I found that the mattes built and blended really well on the eyes and were really able to ground the more shimmery shades. The shimmery shades are high shine rather than being glittery, which is a huge plus for me, and for the most part perform really well.

The only shade in the palette that was a little bit disappointing for me is Chiffon, which I find a little bit sheer and hard to build up. I actually found that both Chiffon and Sunkissed worked best if I applied them wet, because it definitely upped the intensity of the pigment and have a more metallic look to the eyes.

Overall, I have to say that I'm really impressed with this palette and really glad that I picked it up. In fact, I think I might actually pick up the Roses palette at some point to use this spring, since those rosy mauve shades are some of my favorites when the weather gets warmer and I think it will get a lot of use in my collection. I really do think this is great quality for a drugstore palette and would definitely recommend it to someone on a budget looking for an affordable eyeshadow palette that's larger and contains more shades than a lot of options in the drugstore.

The Covergirl TruNaked Eyeshadow Palettes are widely available in any store that sells Cover Girl products!
