FAVORITES: August 2017

by - September 06, 2017

I feel like the end of summer is really hitting hard this year - at least here on the prairies. It seems like the nights are getting cold earlier than usual and I've already shifted out of flip flops mode and into sweater weather mode. Strange, isn't it? Anyway, as summer fades, my makeup and skincare choices really start to naturally shift as well, so this month's Favorites feels a little bit like saying goodbye to summer beauty as much as celebrating the things I loved this past month. Of course, I have a strong feeling that a lot of these favorites are going to endure well into the cold months!

To see what I've been loving, both new and not so new, keep reading!

High End & Luxury Color Makeup
Admittedly, this was just going to be Luxury makeup, but I couldn't leave out the PUR palette because it's been such a go to for me this month. I've been all about really high end lips and lashes particularly though, with a lot of my lower cost options just not really measuring up to these.

Charlotte Tilbury
Hollywood Lips Matte Liquid Lipstick in Screen Siren*
I've fallen in love, I really have. This lipstick has insane pigmentation, looks gorgeous on the lips, and feels insanely comfortable. What more could you ask for? Check out my full review here

Charlotte Tilbury
Matte Revolution Lipsticks in Very Victoria & Walk Of Shame*
These two lipsticks have literally lived in my purse all month long and have gotten a ton of wear. They're just gorgeous and between the two shades, I feel like I can match just about anything. Full review is here

Givenchy
Noir Interdit Mascara*
While I don't like the smell of this mascara, I can't argue with how absolutely gorgeous it makes my lashes and how well it stays put without smudging or flaking. I'm literally struggling to make myself use any other mascara at the moment. Review is here

PUR Cosmetics
Soiree Diaries Eyeshadow Palette
Swoon! Even though I've absolutely loved this for the past month, I suspect I'm going to love it even more as the weather gets cooler and I naturally gravitate towards more warm, matte eye looks. It's just so good, I swear! Check out my review with swatches here

Drugstore Complexion Products
While my lips & lashes have been all luxury this month, I've really been relying heavily on drugstore base products and they've been really getting it done to give me a fresh, healthy looking summer complexion. All of these get big thumbs up from me - and most of them are under $10!

Maybelline
FIT Me Blushes in Nude & Peach
I was so excited to pick these up and I've really hardly reached for anything else. Between the two shades, I've felt like I could basically pair these with any look and they're just gorgeous on the cheeks. Review is here

Physicians Formula
Murumuru Butter Bronzer
Honestly, this was in last month's favorites, but I included it again because it's such an enduring favorite that I just couldn't resist. I'm onto my second Butter Bronzer and I suspect this will be a product that I'll continue to go through like mad.

Hard Candy
Sheer Envy Color Correct Cushion Wonder
I've had this for a while and enjoyed it, but in August I really kind of fell in love with it. Maybe it was the slight shift in my skintone, but I actually found that I could basically use this on its own as concealer and it looked absolutely great. Full review is here

Maybelline
FIT ME Loose Finishing Powder
I'm just gonna go ahead and say that this is the best loose powder at a drugstore price point that I've personally found. It never looks heavy or cakey under the eyes and it really holds my concealer in place well. I'm super impressed and I love how affordable it is. Review is here

Summer Skin Care
Honestly, I've really taken note this month just how much easier my summer skin care routine is, and as long as I have a good cleansing routine and some go tos to keep my skin fresh, hydrated, and protected I'm really good to go!

Dermalogica
Stress Positive Eye Lift*
I got this little sample from PR and almost as soon as I started using it, I saw a difference in the hydration and overall appearance of my undereye area and it was basically instant love. Now to get my hands on a full size, because it has to happen!

La Roche-Posay
Anthelios Mineral Ultra Light SPF 50
I have to admit, this comes second to my SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion, but this is a little more convenient to get your hands on and I think it does a really good job. I used this all month as my daily sun protection and I really think it did a good job for me.

Robin McGraw Luxury
Let There Be Bright Triple Action Brightening Serum
I've been using this serum for a couple of months now and I've really seen a difference in my skin since I've been using it. Everything just looks brighter and fresher overall and the texture of my skin is quite a bit more even. I really, really love this serum. Check out my full review here

Nail Color & Care
If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that I'm trying to learn how to nail art - and part of that is keeping my nails and cuticles looking healthy as a sort of good canvas for nail art looks. I also fell particularly in love with one manicure I did this month, so much so that I actually did it twice using these two nail colours.

essie
Nail Color in Demure VIX
This polish shade is HARD to find. I know this because I love it enough that I want to get a backup and I'm finding it difficult to find. It's a bit of a sheerish créme mauve nude shade that gives a little something to the nails without ever feeling like too much. I love it. And I need to get my hands on more!

Color Club
Holographic Nail Color in Cloud Nine
I'm fully on the holo nails train and this shade from Color Club is beyond impressive. It's really packed full of linear holo and it has a kind of lavender shade to it that keeps it from being straight silver. My favorite way to use it, though, has definitely been as a holo tip because it just brings something special.

JULEP
Cuticle Oil
I don't know if you can tell by the picture, but I've almost used this entire bottle because this cuticle oil is basically like crack for me and I apply it several times a day religiously. I've really, really seen a difference since I've been using it. Not only are my cuticles looking and feeling better, but my nails aren't splitting or breaking the way they used to.

Cutex
Sweet Almond Oil All-In-One Hand & Cuticle Cream
Honestly... it's all about the scent of this for me. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice hand cream and I enjoy the way it hydrates my hands, but it's really all about the almond scent. This lives on my nightstand and I usually apply it before bed - and then spend a minute or two just smelling my hands because I love the almond scent so much.

I know, I know... I had WAY too many favorites this month, but I really couldn't cut it down. While there were a few long time favorites in here, I really did feel like I discovered a lot of great things over the last month and I've been reaching for them all constantly, so of course I had to share them!

I'd love to hear in the comments what you've been loving this month!

Thanks for reading!
