REVIEW: Revlon Photoready Candid Foundation & Concealer
It's been a while since I've done a foundation review here on the blog, so it's definitely time to remedy that. Foundation is such a subjective thing, really, and with so many options at the drugstore I know that I personally heavily rely on the content of reviews to inform what I really want to try. I've also been finding that this season change (along with some seriously high stress levels) has been really effecting my skin and some of the foundations that I had been loving just aren't getting it done anymore. For the past couple of months I've been trying out the Revlon Photoready Candid Foundation & Concealer* and I'm super excited to share my thoughts on them with you guys!

The claims and promises on these products are genuinely unique as far as I can tell, which made them extra interesting to me. Both of these products are formulated with antioxidant, anti-pollution and anti-blue light ingredients. I dug into the ingredients a little bit and it seems like the most potent antioxidant ingredients in both of these products are Green Tea Extract and Cucumber Fruit Extract, both of which are really solid antioxidant ingredients. Cool, right?
Revlon Photoready Candid Anti-Pollution Foundation*
This foundation promises all day wear, hydration, and a medium coverage, flawless natural finish. Sounds pretty much exactly what I personally look for in a foundation. This formula is available in 30 shades, which is pretty respectable for the drugstore. The packaging is pretty simple and to the point, but has a pump for hygiene and ease of application. One thing thing that does bum me out about this foundation (which I'm noticing more and more in the drugstore) is that this only contains 0.75oz of product versus the full ounce that we generally expect in a foundation.
For application, I prefer to pump this onto my hand and apply to the face with a foundation brush to really spread it over the skin and get even coverage and then switch to a sponge to finish the blending and really work it into the skin for the best possible finish. I have normal to combo skin, leaning more dry at the moment, and my biggest issues are texture on the surface of my skin and some fine lines and uneven tone. I use the shade 200 Nude - which is a light-medium shade with peach undertones and is seriously a PERFECT match for me.
For me, this really does live up to its claims beautifully. The coverage is a solid medium and, as someone who isn't really down for a full coverage look, this gives me exactly what I want - an even complexion that doesn't look too makeupy. It definitely feels lightweight and super comfortable as it sets - and it does set - and the wear is really solid throughout the day. I don't need to set this with powder in order to get that all day wear that it promises and I haven't had any issues with it caking up throughout the day or fading in any kind of noticeable way.
For me, this is one of those rockstar every day foundation options that I know will get the job done regardless of what my skin is doing. When I've been struggling with redness or breakouts, this gives me a solid amount of coverage without being too heavy, and when I'm having a good skin day... this really does give me that flawlessness that I'm looking for. Overall, I'm HUGELY impressed with this foundation.
Revlon Photoready Candid Antioxidant Concealer*
This concealer promises medium coverage to dark circles and puffiness. On top of containing the green tea and cucumber extracts for their antioxidant properties, it also contains caffeine, which may or may not help with the darkness and puffiness under the eyes, as well as niacinamide which helps with uneven tone and fine lines. It's packaged in a tube that matches the foundation and contains an interestingly shaped doe foot applicator that sort of resembles a spoon. It contains 10ml of product, which is on the higher end (and also what I generally expect) in the drugstore.
When I apply concealer, I like to let it sit for a couple of minutes before I blend it out to get the best possible coverage, and I find that this is a really good foundation for that because it doesn't set too quickly. I pat a moderate amount underneath my eyes, let it set for probably 2 minutes or so, and then blend out with a sponge. My personal concerns are dark circles, as I have really deep set eyes that tend to shadow quite a bit, along with fine lines that are most obvious within a couple of millimeters of my lower lash line.
Recently, I've been using a lot of really, really high coverage concealers and coverage-wise this is definitely lighter but still gives me a brightened and more awake look under the eyes. It's also much more lightweight than a lot of those high coverage formulas, so I find that it gives me an overall smoother and more natural look and doesn't cake up or crease on my even if I wait a couple of minutes after blending to set it with powder.
Honestly, I feel like this is a really, really good option for an every day concealer for me because it gives a solid amount of coverage and brightness that I'm happy with, and the wear is really, really good. Like I said, if I'm looking for a more perfected and flawless look, there are other options I prefer, but the lightweight finish of this really makes it stand out for me for day to day. I would especially recommend this for more mature skinned people who are looking for a concealer that will give a good amount of coverage without being heavy and emphasizing things that so many of us would rather keep to ourselves. Overall, I'm really, really happy with this concealer formula.
Honestly, I really do think that this is an amazing pair of complexion products in the drugstore that really stand out as new favorites for me. Like I said, I've been using these for a couple of months and they've both consistently worked for me regardless of how my skin is behaving, so they've become a pair that I'm definitely likely to continue reaching for to get my every day makeup done. I'm also definitely going to pick up the Setting Powder in this range, because I have really high hopes that it will live up to these two products.
