Prairie Beauty

Recently, my local Walmart did their Wet N Wild display and there were quite a few new products on the shelves - so of course I had to reign myself in from buying a little bit of everything. I did, of course, pick up a few things though and two of those things are the Wet N Wild Megalast Lipsticks - available in high shine and matte finishes. Admittedly, at just over $4 each, I was tempted to go mad with lipstick buying power like I once would have, but I decided to be good and just try one of each to see how I liked the formulas.

These days, I don't jump to pick up all of the new drugstore releases the way that I used to - the size of my collection has definitely led me to be a little bit more discerning about what I spend my money on - but as soon as I saw the new Essence Insta-Care Lipsticks on the shelf I knew I was absolutely going to be picking up a couple to try out.  I went with the two more nude shades because I knew that those were the ones I was most likely to reach for as well as being the shades I figured I would like most in a nourishing type of formula like the ones these seemed to be.

I feel like there have probably been a lot of these types of posts in the past few weeks since all of the controversy started with Jaclyn Cosmetics and the... dubious condition of a lot of the lipsticks that customers received. Admittedly, I was pretty interested to watch the bonfire myself. But really, the more I thought about it, I really wanted to go into my collection and share some of my personal favorite nude lipsticks on a spectrum from very, very light to deeper and richer. I don't really want to comment on anything to do with the JC launch or any of the issues, but I did want to show you guys some of my absolute favorite nude bullet lipsticks.

When it comes to my luxury Wish List, there are really a lot of things from Charlotte Tilbury on that list. Until now, I hadn't owned anything from the brand because I don't have a local stockist and I like to swatch and test higher end products before I pick them up. However, I've had Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks* in my cart more than a few times in the past, because they've pretty much topped my wishlist for quite some time now. Recently, I finally got the chance to try them out and I'm over the moon excited.

I have to be honest, when I first heard about the new Maybelline The Loaded Bolds Collection, I really didn't think there was going to be much for me there since I've definitely become more of a nude/mauve lipstick kind of girl. To my surprise, this is a really full range with a selection of both really wearable shades as well as some over the top shades that are beautiful, but that I'd never wear. Though I'm always tempted to buy those shades specifically to feature them here on the blog, I tend not to just because I know they'll go to waste once I write about them and I'm actually trying really hard to be less wasteful with my makeup collection.  I decided to pick up the two shades that really called to me, so I grabbed #770 Mauve It and #820 Berry Boss.

If I were to name the top drugstore makeup trends for spring 2015, it would probably be a tie for the top spot between liquid lipsticks and contour products. I swear, they're blowing up and every brand seems to be releasing their own version. Because I'm vaguely obsessed with drugstore lip products, I've been grabbing them like crazy whenever I see them. This is why, of course, I couldn't resist picking up the Hard Candy Velvet Matte Mousse Lip Color in Cherry Blossom as soon as I saw it at Walmart. And by as soon as I saw it, I mean that I saw the box full of the new Hard Candy products waiting to be unpacked and I rummaged through it like a fiend. Is that bad? Anyway, I've been trying this out and I'm definitely ready to let you know what I think of it.

Because I've had really good luck with the NYC Expert Last Lip Color line in the past, I was really excited when I saw this new formula on the shelf at Walmart and I just had to pick it up. As is standard for me, I chose a pretty mauve shade that borders on nude and a deeper berry shade. I feel like this tends to be the best way to get a feel for the formulas of a lip product line without needing to pick up all of the shades. Anyway, I've been trying these out and I'm definitely ready to let you guys know what I think!

So clearly, when I first heard about NYX releasing these liquid lipsticks in a range of nude and neutral shades, I was over the moon with excitement. I mean, wasn't everyone? Matte, nude lips have been going strong for the past year and it was a pretty brilliant move on NYX's part to do a whole collection of them with a nude lip for everyone. That really is the great thing about this collection, because there's a wide range of shades in varying depths with varying undertones. I've seen some reviews that have compared them to the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks, which excited me as well since that's one of my favorite formulas! I decided to restrain myself and pick up 2 shades. I chose Push Up because it seemed like it would be a good, true nude shade for my skintone, and I went with Embellishment because... well, how can I be expected to resist a mauve lip shade?

Anyway, keep reading to take a closer look at the shades I chose and find out what I think about them!

To say I've been dying to try these would be... Well, clearly it would be an exaggeration, but the sentiment is strong. I've been eyeing up both of these shades on social media and the NYX Canada website for ages, but Soft Spoken was the one I wanted the most and it was always sold out. When these NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks were literally the first NYX product to pop up in my local Shoppers Drug Mart, I pretty much grabbed them and ran to the cash register. Seriously, I was a monster who just wanted to pay and get out to my car so I could slap it on my lips. Sometimes it's those products that you've been lusting after for ages, however, that are the most disappointing... So how did it turn out?

I have to say, it's been a GREAT month for empties over here. I've been trying out a lot of new products this month, which is pretty much my favorite thing ever, and so many of the products I've been trying have been knocking it out of the park. In truth, there's only one thing on this entire list that isn't at least fairly new to me. A few of these products are slated to be reviewed in the near future, so I will keep the reviews here brief, but all of these products get the stamp of approval and recommendation from me, so check them out!

It's been a couple of weeks since I hauled my first Colourpop order and I've been using the products pretty consistently since then to get a real feel for how they perform for me. What I have found is that some products perform like heaven, while others are just not at all what I was hoping they would be! So, for the next three days, I'll be reviewing each of the categories of products in their own individual review. Today, it's all about Lippie Stix! I'd heard amazing things about the Lippie Stix formula, so I was pretty eager to get these on my lips. I chose 3 shades - Oh Snap!, Lumiere, and Poison. As per usual when I'm trying out a new lip product formula, I like to try a nude, a mauve, and a red because I feel like it gives me a good overall feel of what's going on with the products. And without further adieu....

Keep reading to take a look at these shades and find out my thoughts on their formula and performance.

Have I been sneaky about how much I've been loving mauve lipsticks in 2015? I feel like they're really on trend right now, but they're also incredibly wearable - which definitely isn't always true for trend items. For me, when it comes to lip products I really feel like there's no need to break the bank because there are amazing options at the drugstore. However, when it comes to BITE Beauty lippies, I tend to feel like they are more than worth the high end splurge and tend to be one of my favorite makeup indulgences. So how do two of my favorites from the drugstore stack up against my favorite brand for high end lippies. Like my other SPLURGE vs. SAVE posts, this isn't really about dupes as much as it is about products that perform the same function and how they measure up quality wise.

The three products that I'll be comparing today are as follows. First, on the high end side of the scale we have the BITE Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon in the shade Glacé. The two lower price options I have here are the Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Pencil in Mulberry Nude and the NYX High Voltage Lipstick in the shade Flutter Kiss.

Keep reading for the comparison & swatches! Also, if you're interested in my full reviews of all three of these products, there will be links at the bottom of the post!
