I think sometimes, in my everything and the kitchen sink approach to nail art, I tend to forget how much value there can be in just keeping it simple. For today's Halloween nail design, I wanted to put together a mani that balanced simplicity with a visually interesting design - and I feel pretty good about it. It's very simple, but there's bats... so what more could a person need?

THIS POST IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUEEN COSMETICS.

I have come to terms with the fact that I am simply not a minimalism kind of girl, as my version of minimalism seems to just be excluding the kitchen sink but tossing everything else in there. That being said, I recently saw some really simple nail art designs from professional nail techs that were really simple and featured nail powders and I really wanted to do my own version of that type of design. Lucky for me, Pueen sent over their Holographic Nail Art Kit* and it seemed like the perfect time to try out a design that my by standards is very, very minimal but also just... so cool.

I think it can be pretty easy to get stuck in the warm toned pumpkin spice of it all come fall, but I also really love to go for ashy cool tones at this time of year as well and I think they deserve some love also...Sso, of course, I decided to grab for some gorgeous polishes that for some reason always make me think of fall and put together this simple and yet pretty intricate abstract inspired by this gorgeous mani I saw on Instagram a while back and just fell in love with.

I have no idea why, but weeks ago I decided that I was going to do some mauve leopard print nails this fall and it just sort of became a given. Of course, I didn't know what polishes I was going to use or how the design was going to look, just that there were mauve leopard print nails in my future. Because I've previously - twice, in fact - done mauve leopard print nails in a glossy, holo finish, I decided this time to keep it créme and matte. Also, I decided to do some reverse stamping rather than hand painting... since I pretty much hate hand painting and feel like I'm generally not very good at it. ANYWAY....

There are some mani's that I've always wanted to do but either never got around to or never had the right tools to help me get it done and today's Christmas themed mani is one of those. I've always loved the look of nails inspired by peppermint swirl candies and I feel like there's just something so festive and fun about them that just immediately feels like Christmastime. For this mani, I didn't want to stick to just the peppermint swirl candies, so I paired that design with some candy cane inspired nails and I love how it turned out.

I have to admit that I sometimes forget just how much I love doing gel polish at home. It took me a long time to get a lamp and start doing it, but there really is nothing better for a quick, long wearing mani. Because I change the nail art on my left hand pretty frequently, I don't often do gel polish on that hand, but for my dominant hand and my toes I absolutely love a gel mani. The first brand of gel I ever tried at home is ASP Soak Off Gel* and they have always performed beautifully for me, so I was super excited to get the opportunity to swatch a bunch of shades from their line.
